Our Past

Economy Manufacturing was also born out of necessity. In the early 1930's, the automobile was becoming very popular. However cars in those days did not have trunks or storage. Pete Hanes, a local welder and inventor had a solution - a unique one wheel trailer.

The trailer was designed to be pulled or pushed by a car with its swivel wheel spinning around to adapt to whatever the situation.

The demand was overwhelming and soon the popular trailer (the first of its kind in the nation) was being shipped throughout the U.S. and Canada. As imitation is the highest form of flattery, Sears and Wards soon began to complement 'Pete Hanes' invention by introducing models of their own. This, coupled with trunk space offered in new car models, shifted Economy's focus to the needs of farmers and ranchers.

That ingenious trailer was just the beginning of a long line of products Economy has launched to fill a particular need.
